Our Favourite Kindle Reads for October

There’s nothing better than slipping into bed, grabbing your E-Reader and sinking into a novel that has you drifting off somewhere far from reality, winding you down after a busy day.

Unless of course, the novel itself is less than captivating and hard to follow.  Don’t you hate it when that happens?!

If you’re in need of some inspiration on what to read next, I've done a little research for you! I've compiled my favourite titles I'd love to share.

First up, there's The Fall by Shari Low. It's the 3rd in a thriller trilogy (I've read the others too), about three friends from Glasgow and their rise to Hollywood fame, but...with a dark secret.

Oh my goodness...I could not put that book down! You know the kind, when your eyes are trying hard to shut and you know that you should be going to sleep, but you've just got to read until the end of the chapter? That good! I won't spill all the beans and leave you to find out rest!

So, let’s skip to some more recommendations and see if you can find something that piques your interest.

Things We Left Behind - Lucy Score

A feisty small-town librarian is determined to find out exactly what the man she hates, did to - or for - her family.  In the process, a dark family secret brings the two together and bickering accidentally turns to foreplay.

A love story of sorts, between two people who were once enemies turned lovers, stuck at an impasse.

Elon Musk - Walter Isaacson

The story of a once kid in South Africa, who was brutally bullied both physically and emotionally.

The emotional scars inflicted by his father would impact and linger on his psyche.  This caused him to have mood swings and an exceedingly high tolerance for risk as an adult man.  He craved drama, an epic sense of mission and a maniacal intensity that was callous and, at times, destructive.

For two years, Musk was shadowed by the author who has captured his story and addresses the question: are the demons that drive Musk, also what it takes to drive innovation and progress?

You’ll have to read the book to find out.

Holly - Stephen King

If you’ve read Stephen King’s books, you may already be familiar with the star character in this book, Holly. In this new novel, Holly is alone against a pair of unimaginably depraved and brilliantly disguised adversaries.

Holly takes on the role of private Detective to locate Penny Dahl’s missing daughter, Bonnie. This leads Holly to the basement of a respectable semi-retired academic couple, which may be related to Bonnie’s disappearance.

Holly is challenged by the shockingly twisted professors in this new Stephen King novel.

Evil Eye - Etaf Rum

The acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of A Woman Is No Man returns with a striking exploration of the expectations of Palestinian-American women, the meaning of a fulfilling life, and the ways our unresolved pasts affect our presents.

After Yara is placed on probation at work for fighting with a racist coworker, her Palestinian mother claims the provocation and all that’s come after were the result of a family curse. While Yara doesn’t believe in old superstitions, she finds herself unpacking her strict, often volatile childhood growing up in Brooklyn, looking for clues as to why she feels so unfulfilled in a life her mother could only dream of. Etaf Rum’s follow-up to her 2019 debut, A Woman Is No Man, is a complicated mother-daughter drama that looks at the lasting effects of intergenerational trauma and what it takes to break the cycle of abuse.”

Mother-Daughter Murder Night - Nina Simon

High-powered business woman Lana Rubicon has much to be proud of: her keen intelligence, impeccable taste, and the L.A. real estate empire she’s built. But when she finds herself trapped 300 miles north of the city, convalescing in a sleepy coastal town with her adult daughter Beth and teenage granddaughter Jack, Lana is stuck counting otters instead of square footage—and hoping that boredom won’t kill her before cancer does.

Then Jack—tiny in stature but fiercely independent—happens upon a dead body while kayaking. She quickly becomes a suspect in the homicide investigation, and the Rubicon women are thrown into chaos. Beth thinks Lana should focus on recovery, but Lana has a better idea. She’ll pull on her wig, find the true murderer, protect her family, and prove she still has power.

A web of lies, family vendettas, and land disputes become uncovered.

Happiness Falls - Angie Kim

A mystery and family drama about the disappearance of a beloved father and husband with the only witness being Eugene, who has the rare genetic condition Angelman syndrome and cannot speak.

Through the investigation of his whereabouts, a family's most personal secrets are uncovered and may be at the heart of his disappearance. Full of shocking twists and fascinating question of love, language and human connection.

This is an unforgettable tale of a family who must go to remarkable lengths to understand one another truly.

We would love to hear from you if you read one of these recommendations! We hope we have managed to capture a wide range of interests and that there is at least one that you can add to your “must read” list.
